Poories with Spiced Potato Curry

These poories are often made as breakfast back at home. As I hardly get time in the mornings to make an Indian Breakfast, I tend to make these as an evening meal or a weekend brunch. Its one of those days where myself and Noel craved for some poories. I know Rocky n myself have cut down on deep fried stuff till christmas, I had to make these as they are Noel’s favourite. Rather then avoiding completely I decided to make a few so that Rocky n me won’t be tempted to go for seconds.. I made simple potato curry with gram flour to go with the poories. This combo is something to die for, a very simple recpe but it tasted incredible.

This curry is quite famous in all restaurants in South India where the taste is enhanced by adding dried peas. It gives an amazing texture and the taste is just heavenly.

Pooris: Wheat Flour : 2 cups
Salt to taste
Glass of water
Mix everything together and make a stiff dough and leave it for 1/2 hr and then roll them out in whatever sizes u like and deep fry them.

Spiced Potato Curry with Gram Flour:

Potatoes: 6 cubed
Onions: 2 sliced

Dried peas: soaked for 2 hrs, pressure cooked n drained
Chillies: 4
Gram Flour: 2tbsp( mix in water)( pouring consistency)
Turmeric: 1tsp
Chilli powder: 1tsp

Take a saucepan and add potatoes, onions, chillies, salt, turmeric and chilli powder.Add glass of water and as soon as the potatoes are just boiled(don’t leave for 2 long as the potatoes get mashed), add the gram flour mixed water for thickening the gravy, u have to stir the curry while adding this and simmer for few min before adding peas.

For tempering: add urid dal, chana dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves. As soon as mustard seeds start spluttering, add curry leaves and coriander leaves and add it to the curry and the most delicious potato curry is ready.
