In time for some fun with flour

Published by Padmaja under FLOUR, Click Event

Noel was really surprised to see me having fun along with him. What a way to start today,  Noel and myself had little time to click some photos before rushing off to school n work today. So what did we do? we played with flour before getting ready and oh boy did we have fun or what. While doing all that you dont think twice but imagine myself after a day at work going home to clear my table with flour everywhere. But its once in a while right!!

I really don’t know why I love to click pictures for our wonderful Jai n Bee’s event and become quite obsessive from day one to visualise how n what I would love to click away every month’s theme and then slowlyit fades to the background and I just keep thinking n thinking n thinking.

Its been nearly a month bee announced this month’s FLOUR theme and I could squeeze in at the very last minute.

here we go!!!

Steamy puds

Published by Padmaja under Clementines, Puddings, Bakes

Desserts are such a delight and its such a special  way to end a meal. I don’t know why I do not try to make desserts as often as I would love to. Myself and Rocky are voracious chilli eaters and need  spicy meals to jazz up our tastebuds then ending it with a sweet note.

I am so glad to see Noel enjoying the spicy food just as much as we enjoy. Now a days  he comes up asking if he can have pickle rice,  those pickles are homemade and come from the chilli hub of India, Guntur. One thing I do not forget to bring when I go on holiday to India  is these amazing pickles which last for a very long time and does wonders for any depressed soul at times to cheer up and zings up any day over a drizzle of ghee and steamingly hot rice.

Now coming back to my first time try, My kitchen desperately  needed a sweet fragrant makeover after all the spicy chilly cooking so I experimented with this recipe I found in one of my magazine collections,  bbcgoodfood  when I had Noel’s friends over the half term.

All the 4  boys were eager to  know what is for afters even before sitting at the dining table. As I have taken leave from work, had plenty of time in hand to make these endearing little puds  for the kiddos. I wasn’t surprised at all when R and J asked their moms’ to take the recipe from me as they simply loved it.Would I be making it often, Most certainly as it was such a simple good pud and I was delighted to have tried this rather then then just drooling over the lovely pictures of the desserts in the book collection I have

Ingredients:

3 clementines

140g butter

6 tbsp golden syrup

175g  caster sugar

3 eggs beaten

140g self-raising flour 85g ground almonds1-130a.jpg

How to put together:Heat oven to 200C and juice one of the clementines and set aside. Peel the other two, reserving the peel. Slice the clementines into thick rounds. Using a teaspoon, scrape away the pith from the reserved peel, then finely chop the peel. Grease 6 individual pudding basins with butter and add 1 tbsp golden syrup into each one of them andplaces sliced clementine. Take another bowl, whisk butter and sugar together until its mixed well, now add the eggs. Fold in the flour, almonds, chopped peel and the juice.

1-161a.jpg Divide the mixture between the basins then cover each tightly with foil. Now carefully place these pudding basins in a roasting tray which is half filled with boiling water from the kettle and cook in the oven for 30 mins until they are puffed up. Turn out onto plates and serve with cream or custard but I served these little puds on their own and they absolutely loved them.

A very special day indeed

Published by Padmaja under Birthday bash

What a day it was, one of the best times ever with his friends over and my friends who were literally on their toes to help me  make the party a huge success, Some said I was brave, Some said I was strong and some wished me luck and some even patted my back today morning to see me still smiling n lively as ever.

Things didn’t start the way I wanted this week, Noel’s teacher called me up on monday morning and told Noel was complaining about ear pain, I panicked as I didn’t want him to fall ill on his birthday so rushed off from work, picked him from school, got to the doctor’s surgery just in time to convince(literally convince) to give him antibiotics. As soon as he had couple of doses, he started getting better.

So there I was all set for this birthday morning to be a special one but here he is slowly getting excited. So I didn’t send him to school hoping that he will get a good rest before mayhem as well as the fun starts in the evening.

Slowly started decorating with balloons n banners and suddenly realised my close friend S offered to help me by painting the kids faces with some amazing designs and I completely forgot to buy the kit.

So I convinced Noel by saying its just a matter of 1 hr, went out in the foggy morning and rushed parked the car and went off to get my stuff without even releasing that I forgot to switch off my car lights!!

Now now now, finished my shopping, came to the car and couldn’t start as my car’s battery went completely dead.

You can imagine my thoughts and Noel’s poor little face staring at me??

Nothing made me prepare for something so stupid as that.

Why why why?? I was cursing myself for being so stupid. Anyway called RAC, the best road recovery services I  pay  along with my insurance , told the problem and expected something I really want to hear but and I  ended up hearinghow busy they were n  atleast 4 hrs and nothing else. I was gobsmacked to hear one of the best road rescue services can’t come earlier than that, I requested n told  about my kid’s party and how I need to be there for receive them. The poor lady on the other side was so sorry for me and said she will do what she can. Time was running out, Noel was getting restless and not to mention myself going through so many emotions.

Suddenly after an hour, I saw their orangey van as an angel in disguise.Imagine how relieved I was??

He jump-started my car and off we rushed home, sorted everything just in time to welcome our guests.

Still I had things to do and panicked n struggling to come out of that car saga which went for more than 3 hours, I was completely drained  but when you think things are getting to you and feel little stressed, your close friends are always there to immediately notice that and help out.

I am so proud to have known you and thank you R, S, Sh and G for your immense help. I owe you gals and Sh thanks once again for your patience with the kiddos. Their face designs were absolutely amazing and loved it so much that the parents found it hard to make them wash away their face paints after they got home.

Noel had an amazing time and so has kids. An eye opener for me to get things organised. But when things go out of hand and when you need help, I am  so blessed to see so many close friends trying to reach me n  offering help even before I ask.

I am getting tearful now, as times like this make you feel how lucky you are to have a great bunch of friends. When you are so away from family , its only friends you have got here and to have a right bunch of them, I am so thankful!!

As promised here are shots of the special day:
