Delectable Savoury Doughnuts

No No No, don’t think I made these for myself as you all know I am keeping myself away from deep fried stuff for a month atleast!!

One of my friend requested me to show her how to make these vadas or savoury doughnuts as she was getting her proportions not quite right and ended up making them as flat as a pancake. So my first friendly class went really well and at the end of the day saw her great smile as if her mission was accomplished. Everyone around me were enjoying with a cuppa but I was ok as I am thinking about my dress which I’ve got to fit in next week.

We enjoyed our evening over a cup of hot coffee. Vadas are so simple to make and with few ingredients.

Here’s the recipe:

Plain Vadas or Lentil Doughnuts:

Black gram lentils: 1 cup soaked in hot water for ½ hr and grind it into a thick batter with little water.
Add salt and a pinch of sodium bi carb and mix it well.
Deep fry these Doughnuts in oil.

As we wanted to have them just as they were without any accompaniments like sambhar or chutney, I spiced our otherwise plain doughnuts with onions, chillies, curry leaves and fried them.

They were light, spicy and absolutely delicious

Now tell me can anyone resist these mouth watering Vadas after looking at those.

Making vada batter is an easy task. Shaping them is something I don’t get to do properly. Gorgeous looking Padmaja. But then, you are an expert cook.
